About AAMPLIFY
AAMPLIFY helps Asian American students lead in their communities through leadership training, social justice education, and professional mentorship.
Asian American issues are important to many Asian American students, but they may not always have the tools to address them.
And while students might be proud of their communities, they might not know how to start advocating for them.
What’s worse, the model minority myth reduces resources directed at Asian Americans. And stereotypes persist that Asian Americans don’t participate in politics, don’t become leaders, and are content to assimilate.
AAMPLIFY creates a space for Asian American students to explore their identities so they can lead from a place of authenticity.
From the model minority myth to anti-Blackness in the Asian American community, AAMPLIFY not only explains relevant Asian American history, but also new types of leadership to shape how youth imagine their futures.
Leadership principles
Help youth reach their full potential, advance equity, and build collective power by networking and sharing with like-minded peers.
Social justice education
Ethnic studies education to develop context and perspective for current events via the lens of historical movements.
Advocacy practice
Foster advocacy and understanding of Asian American issues through daily practice in public speaking and strategizing.
Mentorship and networking
Introduce youth to college students and professionals who guide them on career or school development. Hosted in partnership with OCA-SF.
Practical experience
Students apply their knowledge with events such as lobby days, letter-writing campaigns, and presentations on a topic or issue of their choice.
Graduation
Students, their families, and members of the community come together to celebrate student growth as they present their capstone projects.
Since AAMPLIFY began seven years ago, we’ve served 187 students with a median household income of $80-100k.
We’ve facilitated $20,000 in grants to alumni-founded organizations, and awarded $11,400 in scholarships and stipends.
And we’re proud that community leaders like San Francisco City Administrator Carmen Chu have supported our mission.
